Small Spaces · THE GUIDE
Make a reading nook without adding a whole room
A reading corner needs comfortable seating, accessible light and somewhere to put a book. It does not need to become a separate room. An overlooked corner can work when it fits your daily routine.

Find a useful footprint
Try an existing chair in two positions before shopping. Check glare, noise and walkways. A window corner can work well, but it should not obstruct opening the window, heating equipment or an exit route.
Test real comfort
Sit for a realistic reading session. Check back support, foot position and where your elbows rest. Add a cushion only if it improves comfort. A chair that feels awkward after ten minutes will not become a useful daily habit.
Put light within reach
Use a stable reading lamp with an intact cable, following its instructions. Route cords away from walkways and avoid overloaded sockets. A small table can hold the book you are reading; keep a manageable selection nearby rather than stacking every book in the corner.
Give it one anchor
Choose a textured throw, landscape print or suitable plant. Leave the rest simple. Return the book, fold the throw and remove yesterday's cup at the end of a reading session. A corner feels inviting when it is easy to use again.
